April 2 this year at 4:00 pm locomotive began Chiapas-Mayab route reconnaissance tour, from "Los Toros" to Puerto Chiapas in which Mr. Edgar Antonio Reyes Gonzalez CEO of API Puerto Chiapas participated, accompanied by staff from the FIT (Ferrocarriles del Istmo de Tehuantepec) and this entity. "After 16 years, locomotive will enter Puerto Chiapas back again converting port on an intermodal node, combining rail, shipping and trucking transport".
The renovation and construction of railways in the coast of Chiapas, was determined based on topographical considerations, and economic operation. The project area is located 10 km south - west of the center of the city of Tapachula, Chiapas; and starts on the banks of Álvaro Obregón and ends nearby populated village "Los Toros", and from there continues to Puerto Chiapas.
The new logistics corridor Mesoamerican (Chiapas - Mayab ) will address the domestic market in the agricultural, industrial and fuel sector, and the foreign market mainly Central Asia and South America with chlorine, alcohol, sodium sulfate, sugar, corn, cement, steel, mango, banana and minerals exports. "Upon completion of the Southeastern Railway System with its three major regions interconnected, great opportunities will be encouraged to create intermodal and multimodal stations, connecting and serving the users of those services through logistic platforms that join the Mexican highlands with transisthmian corridor, converting Puerto Chiapas in a very profitable opportunity in logistics".
