American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) recognizes the API work in Chiapas


Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas on June 27, 2011

In the XX Latin American Ports Congress held in Lima, Peru, the President of the Latin American Delegation of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) Jorge Otharan acknowledged the initiative and the results of the API in Puerto Chiapas and congratulated the ports of Acajutla in El Salvador and Puerto Chiapas Mexico because of the signing the international agreement between both convinced that the integration of activities and efforts of regional ports will bring benefits and competitive areas of influence.

This international agreement was signed by Ms. Flor de María Pedrero Canaveral, Director General of the Port Authority in Puerto Chiapas, Mr. Roberto de Jesus Mendoza, General Manager of the Port of Acajutla in El Salvador, Dr. Jorge Otharan, President of the Latin American Delegation of AAPA and Mr. Kurt Nagle, AAPA CEO in Lima Peru on June 23 to 13 hrs.

This agreement seeks mainly the development of Short Sea Shipping, promoting trade between both countries, amounting to $ 354 million and the establishment of a Mesoamerican cruise route. Another of the main objectives is to encourage the movement of goods produced in El Salvador, with a market in southern Mexico.

With these actions, Puerto Chiapas promotes the advantages of handling the cargo by sea, so looking through this partnership to strengthen ties to promote and to handle goods between two ports.
