Cierre histórico para Puerto Chiapas, incremento del 66% en movimiento comercial

Puerto Chiapas ended its business year 2015 this 31 of december with the ship MV Atlantic Veracruz which made its second arrival to this port, the bulk stunning 161 meters long imported 26.948 tonnes of white maize from Itaqui, Brazil; with final destination at the municipality of Villa Flores, Chiapas. The agricultural sector has taken great interest in the commercial movement of the port through cabotage and now in foreign trade activities, making it the second import agricultural product that is made in Puerto Chiapas, reflecting an increase of 28% considering that in 2014 there was not any, reporting at the end of 2015, 64,901.54 tons of maize and fertilizer.

For the profile of the port as feeder of larger ports, 51% of business lies in cabotage, i.e. concentrating products such as steel, corn, tuna and cement from different parts of Mexico, to be consumed in the state or distributed in the southeast or central area. Similarly, thanks to the hinterland of the port, primary activities are preponderant such the exporting of 50,000 tons of sugar to the United States. The sum of all these movements resulted in a maritime movement of 232,308.63 tons which represented an increase of 66% compared to the previous year.

This 2016, Puerto Chiapas has new projects, such as the reactivation of its trade route for the movement of containers, which is expected to operate in the first half of February through Naviera Line Marine Containers (MCL) serving the zone of influence without having a minimum load, performing cabotage operations and foreign trade which can meet the needs of demand and make Puerto Chiapas in logistics option to the southern border of Mexico.
